This statement is from Dr. Eugene Bonaroti:
In the aftermath of the atrocities in Israel on October 7, 2023, in my anger and deep sadness for the victims, I lashed out on social media with statements that were inaccurate, inappropriate and hurtful. I deeply regret having made those statements.
Comments like those I made do nothing to change the perpetual cycle of violence that individuals on all sides of this conflict are experiencing, and I apologize. I also understand that, while I made those statements as a private citizen, people now may question my ability to treat equitably all my patients of varying backgrounds or beliefs. I have spent my career providing the very best medical care to every patient I treat, and that hasn’t changed because of my rash and unacceptable social media posts. I have always followed the Hippocratic Oath and always will.
Through colleagues with close ties to the conflict, I continue to educate myself on this complex and critical situation. I am taking steps to reach out to the Palestinian and Jewish communities to foster dialogue that will further my understanding and help me be at least some small part of the solution."
If you would like to assist with the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in the Middle East, Dr. Bonaroti suggests contacting and donating to the following organizations which he supports:
Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) www.pcrf.net
Palestine Children’s Relief Fund supports fundraising campaigns to support specific projects. Our goal is to raise funds necessary to help support a number of humanitarian needs, programs, and projects, including those for sick and injured children in the Middle East, regardless of their religion and without political affiliation or purpose.
The IRS recognizes PCRF as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. One of the most respected and active nonprofit humanitarian medical relief organizations working in the Middle East. For eleven straight years, PCRF has received Charity Navigators’ coveted 4-star rating, demonstrating strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency. Only 3% of charities evaluated have received this rating."
International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ) www.ifcj.org
The International Fellowship of Christian and Jews is the leading non-profit building bridges between Christians and Jews, blessing Israel and the Jewish people around the world with humanitarian care and life-saving aid. Through programs with global reach of direct assistance such as food, medicines, blankets and heat for disadvantaged individuals and families in Israel, IFCJ provides humanitarian aid to more than 2.3 million people in need worldwide, including the elderly, Holocaust survivors, children, and victims of terror.
The IRS recognizes IFCJ as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. They voluntarily submit to a thorough examination by the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance. In the Spring of 2004, IFCJ was one of the first not-for-profits entitled to display the BBB Charity Seal, showing full compliance with their Standards of Charitable Accountability. It is these standards that encourage fair and honest solicitation practices as well as promote ethical conduct by charitable organizations.
